A rapier loom is a shuttleless weaving machine. Normally, rapier machines weave much more rapidly than most shuttle machines. But they are slow when compared to projectile machines. Classification of Rapier Looms
According to the configuration of the rapier, there are mainly three types, including single rapier loom, double rapier loom and double-layer rapier loom.
Single Rapier Loom
When inserting weft with single rapier loom, only a tall rapier and its rapier transmission mechanism are installed. Later, the weft will be fed into the shed to the other side. When pulling the single rapier loom, the weft does not experience transfer process, so there will be no weft transfer errors as well as the peak tension of the weft. Although the head of the single rapier loom is straightforward, the rapier size is huge. And the stroke is big, too. A large number of them have been replaced by double rapiers due to their low machine speed and large area.
Double Rapier Loom
When inserting weft with double rapier loom, rapier and sword transmission mechanism are provided on both sides of the loom. These two rapiers are called weft-feeding swords and weft-receiving swords, respectively. When double rapier weft inserted, the rapier is both light and compact, so it is handy to achieve the loom width and high speed operation. When knitting using a double rapier loom, the weft yarn is stable, thus there will be no error. Therefore, they are commonly used in rapier looms.
Double-layer Rapier Loom
When using double-layer rapier loom, two upper and lower sheds will be formed by warp yarns. A set of rapiers finishes the weft insertion, and the upper and lower sets of rapier can be driven by the same transmission source. Double-layer rapier loom can enhance productivity of the loom extremely.
